A live-streamed concert in front of a VIP audience. Performed by the MASTERLINK SESSIONS ALL-STARS featuring vocalists MIM GREY, JO HARMAN and MIKE MAYFIELD.

Covering Joni Mitchell can be a journey full of potholes and missteps, but, equally, great songs are made to be revisited so the challenge is there to be had.

This particular journey started in a somewhat ad hoc fashion but, before anyone knew it, there was not only a bunch of instrumentals in the can but also a queue of A list vocalists (think the likes of Rumer, Hamish Stuart to mention but two) wanting to get involved. Hence it's looks like not one, but two albums (one instrumental and one of featured guest vocalists) may well be in the works!

In the meantime, 3 of the best vocalists in the business - Mim Grey (McCartney, Tom Jones, Brand New Heavies), Jo Harman (Duetted with Michael McDonald, Lamont Dozier) and Mike Mayfield (Ed Sheeran, Jessie J) join Redtenbacher's Funkestra, aka the Masterlink studio band, for a special live stream concert in front of a bespoke audience of about 30 people.

This exclusive full length concert takes place at the beautiful Surrey countryside location of Send Hill Studios - free parking on the site, too - where audience members can not just enjoy a 'front row' seat at this very special performance but also a 'behind the scenes' look of how these things work as it were, together, no doubt, with a meet and greet with the performers concerned. (Mark Ede, BiGiAm music management). More information here.

Among the singer/songwriters who emerged in the 1960s, none were as adventurous, incisive, or influential as Joni Mitchell. Her melodious tunes support her poetic and often very personal lyrics to make her one of the most authentic artists of her time. As a performer, she is widely hailed for her unique style of playing guitar. Mitchell's unflinching struggle for her own artistic independence has made her a role model for many other musicians. Mitchell is also a noted painter and has created the beautiful artwork that appears on the packaging of her music albums.

She first became famous for penning "Both Sides Now", a song that helped launch the career of Judy Collins. Her first album appeared in 1968, which featured her voice and her acoustic guitar with virtually no other accompaniment on most songs. Other highly successful albums followed. Mitchell won her first Grammy Award in 1969 for Clouds. She has won seven more Grammy Awards since then, in several different categories, including traditional pop, pop music, and lifetime achievement. More information here.

Join singer/pianist Joanna Eden to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Joni Mitchell’s seminal album “Blue” with classic songs such as “A Case Of You”, “My Old Man” and many more.

Following her Joni & Me show a few years ago, Joanna returns to St Peter's with this further celebration of the life and music of the iconic US singer/songwriter.

Starting as a finger-picking folkie and winding up as a jazz-savvy experimentalist, Joni Mitchell has brought a sharp eye, light touch and an agile trill of a voice to her songs, which have often dissected her romances and skewered myopic governments. She became a critical sensation on Detroit’s folk scene, and her notices led to a series of successful engagements in New York. These early songs, ”Both Sides Now” “Eastern Rain” “The Circle Game” & ”Clouds” have become standards. More information here.

My first experience taking in Joni Mitchell's 1971 album “Blue” was as a 20-something, lying on my back on the living room carpet in a home in which I was house-sitting. I listened to “ Blue" for hours, alternately singing along to it and letting the indescribable music, poetry and vocals wash over me like a healing bath. Like so many other personal accounts I have come across, I found “Blue" at a time when my angst-ridden self most needed soothing.

Many years later, I learned to play the guitar parts and sing every song on “Blue” and recruited my musically accomplished husband to cover the complex piano pieces on “Blue". Our first “Blue” Tribute happened for a crowd of 50 expats in Cuenca, Ecuador in February of 2018.

Four years and 8 shows later, our “Blue" Tribute has developed into something more with the addition of other Joni Mitchell songs and songs written for and about her by her famous lovers at the time which include Leonard Cohen, James Taylor and Graham Nash. These legendary musicians were the muses for many of the songs on “Blue” and their songs and stories reveal much of the inspiration behind “Blue" and create a portrait of one of the greatest singer-songwriters of all time. Joni Mitchell is a masterful musician: self-taught, she is at the same time an outstanding composer, poet, instrumentalist and singer. She has collaborated with jazz greats like Charles Mingus, Jaco Pastorius, and Herbie Hancock. Prince and Björk cited her as inspiration.

I had a strong wish to share stories on how, in the 70’s, Joni’s music penetrated my heart in the Middle East. Speaking in the third person, high schooler H wanders through the streets of Jerusalem, Jericho and Bethlehem, haunted by Joni. She follows him down to the Sinai desert where H, now a medic in the tank corps, sees her dancing in the dunes. Later, in Paris, Joni hovers behind H’s left shoulder, scrutinizing his first attempts at composition.

Today, the teenager has become a composer, singer, writer and instrumentalist, but he is still dazzled by her music.

Joni Mitchell 's chiseled playing with her guitar and piano is inseparable from her melodies and lyrics. Each song, each record is engraved in me like sound photos. To shake up my bearings, I sought the collaboration of musicians rich in imagination, without preconceived ideas, young people who did not know the universe of Joni Mitchell.

Joni Mitchell in Jerusalem has been waiting for me for 20 years. That's it, I'm there.

With Haim Isaacs (voice, piano, shruti box), Matthieu Beaudin (electronic accordion, Michelsonne piano & sanza) & Jules Lefrançois (tuba, sanza & percussion). More information here.

More information here.

Coral Egan, Yannick Rieu, Rick Haworth, Daniel Thouin and four other partners. Joni Mitchell is a unique and timeless artist. Not only does she have a career spanning half a century, but each of her albums is a world of its own. A formation made up of the cream of Quebec musicians, namely Coral Egan (voice), Yannick Rieu (saxophone) and Daniel Thouin (piano) accompanied by Rick Haworth (electric guitar), Rémi-Jean Leblanc (bass), Joana Peters (percussion) , voice), Robbie Kuster (drums) and Zachary Boileau (acoustic guitar) offers here an overview of her work where jazz, folk and pop come together in an original and relevant way. One can expect a very personal reinterpretation of River, Big Yellow Taxi, Coyote and other ones, but strongly anchored in the spirit of the musical openness that characterizes Joni Mitchell's repertoire. The songs thus become a playground for improvisation and interpretation. A retrospective that does not give in to nostalgia, but that undoubtedly fits into the present. More information here.

When I was a teenager in Israel, Joni Mitchell's music followed me through the streets of Jerusalem, Jericho and Bethlehem. I’m sixty-three now, living in France, and the songs still elude me, they still slip through my fingers.

This concert has been maturing for a long time. Together with Matthieu Beaudin (electronic accordion) and Jules Lefrançois (tuba and drums), fresh arrangements emerged; 3-voice harmonies flourished. I also share stories on how, in the 70’s, Joni’s music penetrated my heart in the Middle East. More information here.

My name is Jan Foote, I'm a composer of experimental classical music and I'm doing a PhD at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

I recently wrote a new piece called Echoes of Joni, which is a 40-minute work of experimental music composed for Attica Ensamble, a Mexican ensemble of amplified classical music.

The piece that doesn't sound much like Joni's music, but her songs permeate the entire piece, albeit in a rather hidden way. I was particularly inspired by the albums, Hejira, Hissing of the Summer Lawns and Don Juan's Reckless Daughter.

I took the idea of travel as a concept from Hejira as well, but instead of telling stories of travel, I tried to compose a continually changing landscape of ambient sound.

Echoes of Joni will be premiered online as part of the Fonoteca Nacional's 'Contigo en la distancia' series on the 11th December at 13:00 Central time. It will be shown on their youtube and facebook channels. More information here.

Lauren is joined by musicians, Peter Calo (Carly Simon, Sophie B. Hawkins), on guitar, and Jeff Eyrich (Tim Buckley, Bette Midler) on bass. More information here.

Joni Adno and Friends pay tribute to Joni Mitchell. Joni has been singing since she can remember. Encouraged by her drummer/vocalist father, she began singing duets with her imaginary friend Ricky Nelson on the front porch when she was 4, then graduated to the Presbyterian Choir, junior and senior high chorus. Piano lessons turned into a degree from the University of North Florida in Music Education with a Piano Minor. She sang for friends, weddings, and private affairs until 2005 when her dream of being in a real band came true and she joined up with the Sarasota band Big Night Out, playing keyboards and singing latin, pop, and Motown favorites.

The Joni Project is comprised of saxophone, bass, percussion, keyboards, guitar and vocals, bringing to life the best of Joni Mitchell’s tunes, from her Song to a Seagull album to Hejira, in her most prolific period from 1960’s to 1978. Come out and enjoy some of your favorite Joni tunes. More information here. Live stream here.

The Perri & Neil Quartet re-interpret Joni Mitchell’s 1971 classic album, Blue, in a way that is true to the original, but also draws on the styles of these incredible musicians. Jazz is rolled up with flavours of soca, latin, folk and rock. Between them, they have worked with a host of other musicians including Paco Peña, Jon Anderson (Yes), Seal, Damon Albarn, (Blur, Gorillaz), and Thea Gilmore. Blue was one of the first of the truly confessional, singer-songwriter genre. Joni wrote the songs as a young adult and takes us on her journey navigating her emotional terrain at the time. It was also the start of her being able to strip out any musical or lyrical influences and just be herself.

Perri is in story-telling mode with a splash of the theatrical, as she weaves an autobiographical thread through the show, revealing the special place the album has had in her own life.

The performance will be staged for one night only at The Capstone Theatre, Hope University, on Saturday 13th November at 19:30. More information here.

Oct 6 & 7, 7:30pm – In June of 1971 Joni Mitchell released what would go on to be her most beloved work, the now legendary album “Blue”. A deeply honest and vulnerable collection of songs, Blue has been the soundtrack to the lives of so many throughout the past 5 decades as they’ve navigated their own tumultuous relationships, joys, and sorrows, or as Joni put it, “love so naughty it makes you weak in the knees.” In celebration of 50 years since its release, Broadway songstress Katie Boeck (Voice of Wendla in the Tony-Nominated Revival of Spring Awakening, The Newsroom), is playing and singing the album from start to finish, offering a chance to hear the songs as performed on the record, honoring their original arrangements while interpreting them through her own musical lens and connecting the themes to her own life. From the lonely roads of “All I Want” to the winds of Africa in “Carey” and the “Acid, booze and ass” of the titular track, Katie’s voice echoes the soaring emotional range, playful textures, and haunting hues of Joni’s “Blue” in a way that few can emulate. The show features Katie on Piano, Guitar and Dulcimer, Michael Gannon (Guitar, Vocals), Chris Benelli (Percussion), and Makenna Hartlin (Background Vocals). Tickets for the 6th and for the 7th.

Coyote, Hejira, Edith and the Kingpin, The Hissing of Summer Lawns, A Case of You, Trouble Child, Help Me and Gina’s gorgeous version of Both Sides Now - it’s through songs like these that the band explore the unique songwriting and gift of performance Joni revealed in her iconic albums Blue, Court and Spark, Hejira, The Hissing of Summer Lawns and beyond …

Drawing on their own emotional response to these songs Joni’s Soul have looked beyond merely the faithful reproduction of the Joni Mitchell songbook to shine a light on the most soulful aspects of her words and music. The band's recently released cd 'Shades Of Joni' passionately illustrates their well-defined and warm interpretations of some of the finest songwriting and performance in music history.

Gina Foster - vocals, Ronnie Johnson and Patrick Johnson (guitars), Ross Stanley (keyboards), Steve Pearce (bass), Richard Bailey (drums). More information here.

"There's been a lot of celebration of Joni Mitchell's album, "Blue," this year since it was released 50 years ago in June 2021. It is indeed a special record which has moved and influenced generations of songwriters and audiences. We are honored to be able to share our version.

"Michele Temple and I are also celebrating an anniversary: In August 2012,

"I called Michele, asking her to learn all the songs from "Blue" in their original keys and arrangements so we could perform them at The Bitter End where Joni used to play. I had personal reasons to heal from pain and loss for pursuing this project - it was not about heroine worship. I planned to perform the album the way I heard it as a kid, in the order the songs were placed on the LP. Delighted that Michele agreed to play with me, we got to work.

"Instead of the usual one or two rehearsals for a show, we found ourselves meeting repeatedly before the concert, getting into deep discussions about each song, musically and in terms of the poetry and meaning of the lyrics.

"This was not common pop music - there was something else going on here and we were always investigating.

"I thought "Blue" would be a project for a few months, but the intense work involved inspired us to keep developing and playing this interesting music and to study over 30 songs from Joni's first six records over the past nine years.

"We hope you'll enjoy what we've come up with, painstakingly learning the notes that Joni and her colleagues played, joining with our colleagues in future concerts to share more with you."

UConn is looking at Joni Mitchell from both sides now. The legendary singer/songwriter is the subject of a daylong virtual conference at the University of Connecticut April 9.

The event is structured around the 50th anniversary of her “Blue” album, renowned not just for Mitchell’s arresting vocal style and songwriting craft but for its sparse and unusual acoustic instrumentation which includes a dulcimer as well as acoustic guitar and piano.

The event’s organizer, Peter Kaminsky is a professor of Music Theory at UConn. “I’ll be 68 in May, and I grew up listening to her music,” he says. “In high school, her albums blew my mind. Now, she’s had a number of interviews lately, and released a five-volume archive of her music, so it’s kind of a Joni moment.

“This is an academic conference, with cutting-edge work on Joni Mitchell from scholars, but it will also have appeal for Baby Boomers.”

21/5000 mas informacion aqui / More information here

Come celebrate Joni’s 77th birthday with some of her biggest fans! Joni’s music and art has touched the lives of so many. Doors open at 6:00pm, show starts at 6:30.

This is our 4th year doing the tribute, but our first time not welcoming any guest musicians to the stage. This decision was made due to the current covid-19 restrictions, and wanting to keep everyone safe. We will be performing in The Sanctuary at 75 Stutson street. This space is stunning, with its 30' high ceiling, stained glass windows and tri-level stage, amazing natural sound qualities including a grand piano. The venue will be operating at half capacity in observance of the CDC standards in addressing the pandemic, so seating is limited. Masks will be required at all times when not seated, and social distancing will be in effect. More information here.

Just in time for her birthday, we are very proud to present you with The Joni Project, and it premieres this Friday, November 6 at noon EST on WFUV.

Now, asking artists to cover a Joni Mitchell song throws a daunting challenge their way. On top of the complexity of her work, to pay tribute to Joni is to honor her art, and a life spent making it. With that request, we also invited artists to discuss the threads and reach of Joni’s greatness, both as a relatable inspiration and a creative enigma. So in The Joni Project, you’ll hear them answer that call in words and song.

Another challenge is life in a pandemic, so it’s with extra gratitude that we thank the 10 artists whose talent and heart you’ll hear. Some sounds are from the days of in-person shows and some come from artists’ homes, but bringing us all together is Joni Mitchell.

If you can't join in and listen on Friday, November 6 at noon, The Joni Project will also air on WFUV on Saturday, November 7 (Joni's birthday) at 3 p.m. and Sunday, November 8 at 8 p.m., and will be archived online following the premiere. More information here.

Two Canadian folk music icons that changed the course of musical history on the world scene: one, a prairie girl with small town roots; the other from the Jewish community in Montreal. Both artists had a lot to say and an abundance of extraordinary talent. Emerging from the folk music renaissance of the early 1960’s as solo artists armed primarily with their voices and acoustic guitars, how did they influence each other? What is their legacy? Reaching across the 40+ years of Mitchell’s extraordinary career, Robin and Dave have performed six of Joni’s albums to date and released two CDs of their own (Safaris to the Heart (2010) and Hejira Live (2014). Love City Music Collective presents “Reckless Daughter - The Celebration of Joni Mitchel”, their collaboration event show in honor of one of music’s greatest and most innovative artists, Joni Mitchell.

Led by Love City Music Collective founder and lead vocalist, Peg Talbott-Lane, “Reckless Daughter” is comprised of some of the finest area musicians and singers who all share a deep love for Ms. Mitchell’s works. The band - Barry Hollander, Tony Winkler, Troy Shoenmeier (Guitars), Rob Lawrence on piano and organ, Glenn Marrazzo on bass, Mark Schreiber and James Farrell on drums/percussion, and arranger Mark Zelesky leading the horn section.

Joining Ms. Talbott-Lane on vocals, are guest vocalists Irene Lambrou (Almshouse) and Amanda Brizzi (Hotsy Totsy). Combining their different vocal approaches and influence between rock, jazz, theater and harmonic capabilities, their approach to the songs is authentic and personal, delivering the raw emotion the songs at times demand of any singer seeking to interpret them.

In this performance, “Reckless Daughter” will perform the hits and deep cuts of Ms. Mitchell’s focused primarily on mid-career selections from albums such as Court & Spark, For the Roses and deeper tracks from Hissing of Summer Lawns along with arrangements from Miles of Aisles of her earlier works. This show will feature a performance of Ms. Mitchell’s masterpiece album, Hejira.

The songs on Hejira were largely written by Mitchell on a trip by car from Maine back to Los Angeles, California, with prominent imagery including highways, small towns and snow. Characterized by lyrically dense, sprawling songs, and graced with the overdubbed bass playing of Jaco Pastorius, Hejira continued Mitchell's journey beyond her pop records towards the freer, jazz-inspired music she would create on later recordings. “Coyote", "Amelia", and "Hejira" subsequently became concert staples especially after being featured on the live album Shadows and Light, alongside "Furry Sings the Blues" and "Black Crow." The theme of the title song summarizes the beautiful tone of the whole album...it’s leaving the dream, no one to blame.

Coming on the heels of Reckless Daughter’s November debut, this cabaret-style show is for the ultimate Joni Mitchell fan. Tickets are limited to seating for this performance. More information here.

Arc Iris performs 'Foggy Lullaby" in it's entirety, their complete re-imagination of Joni Mitchell's seminal 1971 album, 'Blue'. This stream is presented by Club Passim. WBUR says: "The show is exactly what it sounds like, with an emphasis on "reimagines." Arc Iris takes great liberties with Mitchell’s 1971 masterpiece, unraveling those lovely, corkscrewing melodies ... But where Mitchell’s original recording is sparse, almost minimalist, with the singer’s voice mixed close and warm, Arc Iris’ take is sprawling and explosive... Folded between the songs are long sections of Mitchell’s own voice, clipped from old interviews with the singer. Even as the band roams further and further from the source material, Mitchell herself slides more sharply into focus, emerging as a self-possessed presence with a clear and unsparing sense of her own artistry."

Joni's Soul is a collaboration between "from-the-heart" singer Gina Foster and former longtime Van Morrison guitarist Ronnie Johnson, joined by some of UK's finest players with a shared love for an artist they consider one of the greatest singer/songwriters and guitar innovators of the last half century.

Coyote, Hejira, Edith and the Kingpin, The Hissing of Summer Lawns, A Case of You, Trouble Child, Help Me and Gina’s stunning performance of Both Sides Now - it’s through songs like these that the band explore the unique songwriting and gift of performance Joni revealed in her iconic albums Blue, Court and Spark, Hejira, The Hissing of Summer Lawns and beyond …

Drawing on their own emotional response to these songs Joni’s Soul have looked beyond merely the faithful reproduction of the Joni Mitchell songbook to shine a light on the most soulful aspects of her words and music. The band's 2018 cd 'Shades Of Joni' illustrates their warm and well-defined interpretations of Joni's achievements, namely some of the finest songwriting and performance of the twentieth century.

One character in particular -- Bell -- finds solace in the music of Joni Mitchell, such as the tune with the same title as Mitchell's debut concept album "Song to a Seagull." (This is reflected in the name of the complex of rental cottages owned by Bell.) "All I Want" is a number from Mitchell's fourth studio album released in 1971, "Blue," and House cites the song as central to Bell's character and the album itself as playing a pivotal role in his book. The trumpeter’s interest in the songbooks of pop music writers started with his album of music by The Pearlfishers. For a second edition, he’s turning to one of the greatest songwriters of the past 50 years, Joni Mitchell. He’ll naturally turn those quirky melodies about romance, confusion, disillusionment and joy into new pearls for jazz audiences to enjoy. Steele’s approach is to savour the simplicity; not stray too far from the melody; look for beauty; and create tunes that glow and sparkle with warmth and affection. It’s a beautiful concept that not many musicians could pull off, but with David Milligan (piano), Calum Gourlay (bass) and Alyn Cosker (drums) he does it! More information here.
