'Love in Blue' with KatieCat & Cain, New Orleans, Feb 11

Posted February 02, 2022

My first experience taking in Joni Mitchell's 1971 album “Blue” was as a 20-something, lying on my back on the living room carpet in a home in which I was house-sitting. I listened to “ Blue" for hours, alternately singing along to it and letting the indescribable music, poetry and vocals wash over me like a healing bath. Like so many other personal accounts I have come across, I found “Blue" at a time when my angst-ridden self most needed soothing.

Many years later, I learned to play the guitar parts and sing every song on “Blue” and recruited my musically accomplished husband to cover the complex piano pieces on “Blue". Our first “Blue” Tribute happened for a crowd of 50 expats in Cuenca, Ecuador in February of 2018.

Four years and 8 shows later, our “Blue" Tribute has developed into something more with the addition of other Joni Mitchell songs and songs written for and about her by her famous lovers at the time which include Leonard Cohen, James Taylor and Graham Nash. These legendary musicians were the muses for many of the songs on “Blue” and their songs and stories reveal much of the inspiration behind “Blue" and create a portrait of one of the greatest singer-songwriters of all time.
