The academic procession began at 1:45 pm, speeches were at 2 pm, and graduates started walking across the stage at 3 pm.

Honorary Doctor of Letters: Joni Mitchell is a generational talent, hailed by Rolling Stone magazine as “one of the greatest songwriters ever”. She was not present at the ceremony. U of S President and Vice-Chancellor Peter Stoicheff received the honorary degree on Mitchell’s behalf. Canadian singer/song writer Kathleen Edwards sang a musical tribute in honour of Mitchell (You Turn Me On, I'm a Radio)
