Another major summer rock festival is being planned for the Northeast. This one, to be called "The Hamlet of Hurleyville," is scheduled for Aug. 24 - 26 on the 240-acre site of the former Columbia Hill Hotel in Sullivan County, NY.

The promoters are Jeff Franklin of American Talent International and Leon Greenberg, a lawyer. Their plan is for a permanent, Tanglewood type building, but this year's concerts will be in a temporary facility. Permits for the event have not yet been obtained, and a local resident indicated yesterday that there was some local opposition.

A festival record album will be distributed domestically by CBS Records and internationally by Polygram, and Casablanca Filmworks will produce a documentary film.

This summer's schedule so far includes Rod Stewart, Joni Mitchell, the Village People, Bob Seger, Cheap Trick, Hall and Oates, Foghat and REO Speedwagon. Tickets will be available about June 1 by mail only, and will cost $37.50 for all three days; there is no word yet as to how many will be put on sale.
