Los Angeles, CA - November 30, 2022 - Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MoFi), which specializes in the foremost audio technology and definitive reissues of significant albums, will release in collaboration with Rhino Entertainment six iconic Joni Mitchell albums on its acclaimed UltraDisc One-Step 180g 45RPM 2LP (UD1S) and hybrid Super Audio CD (SACD) formats. Strictly numbered and limited, each UD1S box set will be sourced from the original analog master tapes (analog tape to DSD to analog console to Lathe) and pressed on MoFi SuperVinyl. The numbered-edition SACDs will come packaged in mini-gatefold sleeves and will also be sourced from the original analog master tapes. Ladies of the Canyon (1970) and Blue (1971) will be released in 2023. Four other albums from the singer-songwriter's groundbreaking mid-'70s period - For the Roses (1972), Court and Spark (1974), The Hissing of Summer Lawns (1975), and Hejira (1976) - will follow.

"Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab has eyed these timeless Joni Mitchell albums for years," says label President Jim Davis. "There's a direct line between the current wave of vital contemporary artists - Brandi Carlile, Sharon Van Etten, and Phoebe Bridgers to name a few - and the trailblazing music, songwriting, and culture Mitchell established decades ago. Her records are more important than ever, and we are thrilled listeners will get to experience them with unparalleled directness, intimacy, and realism."

Having played her first public concert in nearly 20 years this past summer, Mitchell is currently enjoying an unprecedented spike in popularity and acclaim, which makes these releases all the more timely and important. Her most beloved and commercially successful albums have never before received audiophile-quality treatment on any format. Entirely produced to perfectionist degrees by Mitchell, they teem with nuanced singing, keening melodies, acoustic tones, sophisticated arrangements, and jazz accents that underscore a unique blend of emotional weight, folk tradition, and focused reflection. Such skillful original production and attention to detail are more reasons why Mitchell's pioneering works demand the restorative treatment Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab provides. Experienced on the label's UD1S box sets and SACDs, her music will sound more personal, present, direct, and beautiful than ever.

Playing with reference sonics that elevate landmark efforts whose incalculable influence traverses generations and genres, these collectible reissues will provide a clear, clean, transparent, balanced, and faithful view of lyrical albums that changed music, impacted culture, inspired movements, and transformed songwriting. And because MoFi's unique SuperVinyl compound basically eradicates the noise floor and features unparalleled groove definition, listeners will be able to hear Mitchell as if she is sitting just a few feet away and giving them their own private concert.

The premium packaging and gorgeous presentation of the UD1S Mitchell pressings befit their select status. Housed in a deluxe box, each set features special foil-stamped jackets and faithful-to-the-original graphics. These limited-edition reissues are made for discerning listeners who prize sound quality and production, and who desire to fully immerse themselves in everything surrounding an album - and, with many of Mitchell's efforts, that extends to her paintings that grace the cover art.

Having honed her craft in coffee houses and folk clubs during the mid- and late '60s, Mitchell embarked on a free-ranging career that remains without precedent. A 10-time Grammy Award winner, Kennedy Center Honor recipient, and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, she quickly became a sensation known for her poetic verse, defiant honesty, daring investigation, and fluid playing. A fierce champion of gender equality and personal freedom, Mitchell not only joined the exclusive boy's club - she sat at the head seat and made room for inclusivity, challenge, and change. On albums such as Ladies of the Canyon and Blue - a benchmark widely considered the most exemplary pop record made by a female artist - the Canadian distills big-question themes, philosophical ideas, and old-soul wisdom into plainspoken, accessible narratives framed by brilliant combinations of guitars, pianos, percussion, and horns.

Mitchell continued to evolve with For the Roses and Court and Spark - renowned albums that reflect a deepening interest in melding rhythmic and harmonic components from a diverse array of styles - in advance of channeling her love of jazz on The Hissing of Summer Lawns and working with fellow adventurer Jaco Pastorius on Hejira, which she once described as her most distinctive work.

Hope they don't drop all the middle out like they did Abbey Road all those years ago. Never bought a MFSL product since.
