Joni Mitchell, the celebrated Canadian songstress, will perform onstage at Massey Hall in Toronto for this year's Luminato Festival.

It was announced last week that Mitchell would be attending the festival, which this year includes Joni: A Portrait in Song - A Birthday Happening Live at Massey Hall, a tribute to the songstress. Mitchell will now be performing as part of the celebration.

Mitchell will recite a poem - with musical accompaniment - alongside longtime collaborator Brian Blade and trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire.

"The fact that Joni will now be joining all of the wonderful musicians and singers on stage at Massey Hall to recite a new poem that she wrote is more than a dream come true. It is a dream I did not even have when first talking to her. It shows how connected she is to Toronto and Canada and what a wonderful spirit she is," Luminato's artistic director, Jorn Weisbrodt, said in a statement Friday.

Luminato officials also announced that Chaka Khan, who was scheduled to perform in the Birthday Happening, has cancelled her appearance, due to "extended vocal rest ordered by her doctor."

The seventh edition of the Luminato Festival runs June 14-23. For information, visit their website.
