We were all very impressed when JK Jones did a few Joni Mitchell songs at our Songwriters of Canada show recently, so we invited her to come do a full tribute show. JK will be covering songs from Joni’s Song to a Seagull, Blue, Court and Spark, Hejira, Clouds and For the Roses. This rare event will feature acclaimed song-writer Jay Asher on piano for Joni's "Blue Boy".

"JK Jones is a rare artist in today’s music world who honors her influences, not through imitation, but through the musical creation of a transcendent pathway that reaches into soul of the song and delivers into the present. Her tribute to Joni Mitchell is vibrant, passionate, and magical in its depth, dimension and the beauty she helps us rediscover in one of our most enigmatic and legendary artists. Her original songs bring alive the passing of the artistic fire she holds holy and obviously loves." -Terry Paul Rowland

On her 80th birthday, Roundhouse and Lail Arad announce a celebration of Joni Mitchell; one of the most highly regarded and influential singer-songwriters of the 20th century as part of In The Round Festival. One of the first women in modern rock to achieve enviable longevity and critical recognition, Mitchell has been a major inspiration to music's biggest names including Bob Dylan, Prince, Donna Summers, Bjork, James Blake and Lana Del Rey.

Frequently confessional, sometimes obscure, always literate and musically adventurous, she has created one of the most striking bodies of work in the popular music of the last 6 decades.

Hosted by Cerys Matthews, a stellar line up of artists join us for this special intimate evening of stripped back performances set on the circular In The Round stage. Covering some of Joni's best work are Emeli Sandé, Vashti Bunyan, Lail Arad, Sam Amidon, Kate Stables (This Is The Kit) and Eska. More information here

Unfortunately, the Canadian pop icon JONI MITCHELL is far too little known in this country despite being listed by the legendary “Rolling Stone” magazine at number 9 of the 100 best singer/songwriters of all time. We are more familiar with her top hits “This Flight Tonight”, “Big Yellow Taxi”, “Woodstock”, “My Secret Place” and “Both Sides Now”, which are often not associated with her.

With her four excellent musicians, the Stuttgart singer Birgitta Menzer presents all of the artist's favorite songs, and the listener can experience in a magnificent way what it means when Joni Mitchell says about herself:

“I'm painting with words and music”. More information here

A Celebration of Joni Mitchell featuring Kimberly Ford is a rocking tribute to the most iconic singer-songwriter of the Woodstock generation. Mitchell touched millions with her nearly 40-year career that spanned genres from contemporary folk to jazz to full-throated pop-rock. This incredible seven-piece band, modeled on Joni’s tenure with Tom Scott & the L.A. Express, plays all your favorite tunes, like Help Me, Both Sides Now, Conversation, Blue, River, All I Want, Free Man in Paris, Carey and, of course, Woodstock. The band also throws in a few you might not have heard before ...

COJM has been packing houses throughout Southern and Northern California and the Southwest since 2014. Significant performances include the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara, Kuumbwa Jazz Center in Santa Cruz, Yoshi’s Oakland, Olivas Adobe in Ventura, Palms Playhouse in Winters and Grand Annex in San Pedro. In 2020, the band mounts its first East Coast tour with a stop at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

Die-hard fans can’t get enough (and often sing along) and critics have noticed. “No singer on the West Coast is paying more scrupulous attention to Mitchell’s wondrous book than Santa Barbara’s Kimberly Ford,” writes Bay Area journalist Andy Gilbert, noting her “bright and flexible soprano that effortlessly rises into Mitchell’s upper range.”

Ford and her band bring a new verve to all of Joni’s favored genres. Not content to be a paint-by-numbers tribute band, COJM infuses Mitchell’s songs with new life while paying deep respect to a revered icon and poet laureate of her generation’s songwriters.

Joni’s absence from performing has only whetted appetites for COJM since the band’s birth six years ago. Founding drummer Charles Levin approached Ford with the idea after hearing her sing on gig at a private party. Two weeks later, he emailed Ford to see if she was game for a Joni-centric band. The answer was a resounding yes! In short time, Ford and Levin assembled a crew of the area’s best-known musicians to take on the project. More information here
