The Perri and Neil Quartet perform Blue, Liverpool UK, June 22

Posted June 14, 2016

From its opening line ‘I am on a lonely road and I am travelling’ to the introspection of the ‘Dark cafe days’ of its closing moments, Joni Mitchell’s 1971 classic album, Blue, almost single-handedly defined the confessional singer-songwriter genre.

The Perri and Neil Quartet is based on an original song-writing collaboration, between vocalist Perri Alleyne-Hughes and virtuoso classical guitarist and composer, Neil Campbell who create a very personal music of atmosphere and poise. Roger Gardiner, an amazingly versatile bassist and the superb Viktor Nordberg on drums, complete the quartet. The four musicians between them bring together an array of influences which include jazz, folk, progressive rock, classical music, free improvisation, soul and singer-songwriter music.

For The Blue Project, the Perri and Neil Quartet perform the complete Blue album in sequence, with a truly sensitive interpretation that draws on these influences. More information here
