Two interesting articles appeared in the Canadian press this week to coincide with the CBC airing of Woman of Heart and Mind, Part One:

Martin Knelman's story from the March 2 issue of the Toronto Star contains a few comments from Joni; it's one of the few interviews I expect we'll be seeing that is related to the program release. As Joni says in the interview: "I'm not good with the press. I can't handle it. I tend to be too honest." At times, the article renders an unusual perspective, capturing the atmosphere in Joni's house as she moves from room to room.

In addition to discussing the film, which she considers "good storytelling," Joni voices opinions on the world we live in these days, and on the sorry state of music on the radio.

A fascinating behind-the-scenes interview with Peabody award-winning director and American Masters founder Susan Lacy also appeared this week, in which she describes her involvement with Woman of Heart and Mind. The Ottawa Sun article by Tony Atherton details some of the hurdles necessary to finish the film, clearing up questions about why the project took as long as it did. The story was reprinted in many newspapers across Canada.

Part Two of Woman of Heart and Mind airs on CBC Tuesday, March 11; the American Masters broadcast is scheduled to air in the US on April 2.
