It's finally here! Out now, the JONI MITCHELL ARCHIVES, VOL. 4: THE ASYLUM YEARS (1976-1980) culls previously unissued material from original stereo reels, cassette tapes, CD-Rs, and even a radio broadcast. Newly mixed tracks came from multi-track tapes, while a handful of hi-res digital tracks have been sourced from the Bob Dylan Archives. More information here

Throughout the latter half of the seventies, Joni continued to creatively break ground with her fearless and fluid exploration of jazz. Rather than tread the same path, she challenged and reinvented her style with a folk fusion like no other. Ascending to an unrivaled sonic peak, this innovative sound took shape across the gold-certified Hejira [1976], the gold-certified double-LP Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter [1977], her collaboration with Charles Mingus entitled Mingus [1979], and live album Shadows and Light [1980]. Channeling the thrill and excitement of these records, she delves even further into this season on Joni Mitchell Archives, Vol. 4: The Asylum Years (1976-1980), releasing on October 4, 2024 via Rhino Records. ‘Hejira’ is a 7-piece band set up to celebrate and honour the masterpiece works of Joni Mitchell, mostly from the late ‘70s. Having released the albums ‘The Hissing of Summer Lawns’, ‘Hejira’, ‘Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter’ and ‘Mingus’ (regarded as her ‘jazz period’), Joni then toured briefly with a band formed from the crème de la crème of contemporaneous jazz musicians (Metheny, Mays, Brecker, Pastorius and Alias). The tour was recorded, producing the outstanding live album, ‘Shadows And Light’; it is from this album that the band Hejira is drawing the body of its repertoire. Comprising highly experienced jazz musicians, this band is fronted by the brilliant Hattie Whitehead who not only has in her own way - assimilated the poise, power and beauty of Joni’s vocals, but also plays guitar with Joni’s stylistic mannerisms. Join us for a celebration of the songs and artistry of Joni Mitchell as we bring her songs to life! Often referred to as the greatest contemporary songwriter, Joni has been a huge influence in our lives and music over the years. Joni’s career has spanned over half a century, and in that time, she explored and experimented in many genres of music and made them her own. We have selected some of our favorite Joni songs and aspire to honor the original and explore our individual artistry through her songs. Additionally, we will play some of our own tunes that were directly inspired by Joni Mitchell. Liz Barnez, Rebecca Folsom, and Celeste Krenz will be singing and providing harmony vocals, guitar, and piano. Accompanying will be a group of Colorado’s finest musicians: Eric Moon on keys, Steve Ivey on drums, Eric Thorin on bass, and Eric Straumanis on guitar. More information here
