This video, shot by director Mark Romanek in Los Angeles, takes place during the time of Apartheid in South Africa. Janet is depicted as a lounge singer. The video is a blend of 60's and 70s African and African American culture as the people feel free and have a good time living life. Even though the song was released as an international single, the video received television airplay in the U.S. It also received critical acclaim, winning a Grammy for Best Short Form Music Video in 1998.
The chorus, You don't know what you've got 'till it's gone, from Joni's Big Yellow Taxi is featured throughout the Janet Jackson song Got 'Til It's Gone, from The Velvet Rope album. Along with Joni's vocals, the rapper Q-Tip is featured; Joni Mitchell never lies. The song has various remixes.
