Hejira Print-ready version

Translated from Dutch by Hans Post Uiterweer

On her new album, Hejira, Joni Mitchell has left her usual pop song structure further behind than she did previously. The nine songs on this record came about through the text in the first place. There hardly are any distinct melodies that remain in our memories. That the record leaves an impression that is not easily forgotten, is because the texts are good and the sparse musical accompaniment is optimal and surprisingly well adjusted. A record that is meant to be listened to attentively as a chapter in the life of someone who has a complicated relationship with herself and developed this very special musical form for this reason.
