The University of Saskatchewan senate has recommended folk singer Joni Mitchell receive an honourary degree.

Now it has to make an appointment with the famous musician.

The U of S hopes to honour Mitchell next year if her schedule allows, senate secretary Ian McLean said Saturday.

"It's going to be quite delicate. We want to display a collection of her artwork at the Mendel (Art Gallery). So it's going to take a while to work things out."

Mitchell is also a prolific painter, in addition to being a singer-songwriter.

Born in Fort McLeod, Alberta, Mitchell lived in various small towns before her family settled in Saskatoon. She attended Queen Elizabeth elementary school and Nutana and Aden Bowman collegiates. Her parents still live in Saskatoon.
