Spirit of the Forest, a pro-ecology fund-raising song written by Kenny Young, was a project designed to raise public awareness of the disappearing rainforests. The video features more than 60 performers including Joni. Two recording sessions were taped in Los Angeles and in London. Three others were in New York, Rio de Janeiro and in an Amazon rain forest.

Joni can be seen in animal-print at 1:35 singing the words: THE KOOKABURRA AND THE GOLDEN MONKEY.

The single, a video, and a series of public service announcements were released in conjunction with World Environment Day on June 5, endorsed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The record was released worldwide on Virgin Records.
