Joni Mitchell is in the middle of a very exciting period when it comes to her music career. While she may be getting on in years - the singer-songwriter is now 80 - she's not slowing down her release schedule. Fans seem as interested in older recordings as any possible new work (though there's no reason for anyone to hold their breath for that), and the musician regularly returns to the charts with throwback projects.

In the United Kingdom this week, Mitchell starts her latest release on three different charts. Archives - Vol. 4 is new to the top 40 on a trio of rankings, as it became a quick bestseller once the guitar player shared it with the world.

Archives - Vol. 4 lands highest on the Official Americana chart, where it enters the race at No. 6. It's also new to the top 40 on both the Official Physical Albums (No. 35) and Official Albums Sales (No. 38) lists.

Mitchell has now started two new releases on both of those latter tallies in 2024 alone. Back in July, The Asylum Albums - 1976-1980 debuted in nearly the same position on both sales-only rankings. The legacy package peaked at No. 20 on the Official Physical Albums list and one rung lower on the Official Albums Sales chart.

Archives - Vol. 4 is, as its name suggests, the fourth in a series from Mitchell. She began the rollout back in October 2020 with Joni Mitchell Archives - Vol. 1: The Early Years (1963 - 1967), which was a healthy win for her at the time.

Since then, Mitchell has fairly steadily doled out new additions to the ongoing project. Joni Mitchell Archives - Vol. 2: The Reprise Years (1968 - 1971) arrived in 2021, while Joni Mitchell Archives - Vol. 3: The Asylum Years (1972 - 1975) hit the charts last October.

Well over a dozen new titles beat Mitchell and her latest Archives offering on the sales charts, as it was a very busy frame for exciting projects. She comes in behind names like Coldplay, James Bay, Jake Bugg, and even Jimi Hendrix, who was more like a contemporary for Mitchell than many of the other acts that score a win this frame.
