SASKATOON - An award for her achievements prompted Joni Mitchell to recall her growing-up years in Saskatoon. The singer-songwriter was surrounded by friends, family and well-wishers Sunday as she accepted a lifetime achievement award by the Saskatchewan Recording Industry Association. Mitchell, 50, then held an informal discussion, reminiscing about attending Queen Elizabeth school where a seventh-grade teacher inspired her to write poetry. She also apologized to Bob Hinett, her high school art teacher, for dozing off in his class after listening to rock music on her radio until the wee hours of the morning. Although she splits her time between homes in Los Angeles and northern British Columbia, Mitchell said she fantasizes about returning to Saskatchewan to write.
