Country music superstar Kenny Rogers, Vancouver rockers Bryan Adams and Loverboy and Scottish pop singer Sheena Easton will perform May 3 in a gala Expo '86 opening concert to be attended by the Prince and Princess of Wales at the Expo Theatre in Vancouver.

The concert, which also includes Vancouver pop band Idle Eyes and Quebec singer Veronique Beliveau, will be taped by CBC-TV for broadcast May 19 at 8 p.m.

Executive producers of the concert are Maureen Jack, executive director of the Vancouver-based Northern Lights for Africa Foundation, and Bruce Allen, who manages Adams and Loverboy.

"There were several other Canadian acts we tried to get," Allen said yesterday. "Anne Murray was unable to get out of a commitment to tape a German TV show. Rush is on the road. Neil Young passed and Joni Mitchell never returned my call."

Jack is also executive producer of a CBC-TV special starring award-winning Canadian music star David Foster, who produced and co-wrote the Northern Lights' African relief song "Tears Are Not Enough".

The Foster special, which was shot on location in Vancouver earlier this month, will likely be aired in October, a CBC spokesman said yesterday.

Tickets for the concert are available by phoning, toll-free, 1-800-663-0223. They cost $86 each.
