Joni's teacher mystery solved

There is no longer an air of mystery about Joni Mitchell's favorite teacher. Mr. Kratzmann..

The folk singer, capitalizing on the release of a new album, indicated in a story last Saturday that part of her success was due to the inspiration of a Saskatoon school teacher. Mr. Kratzmann, but Miss Mitchell wasn't sure where he now lived.

Arthur Kratzmann is in the process of moving to the University of Victoria, B.C., where he will join the faculty of education for the fall term.

Mr. Kratzmann was a native of Australia, a member of the Royal Australian Air Force, and he came to Saskatoon to teach in the public school system.

Mr. Kratzmann taught Miss Mitchell in Grade 7 at Queen Elizabeth and he was vice-orincipal at Queen Elizabeth and Brunskill schools.

He gained his bachelor of education at the University of Saskatchewan here and later a master's degree at Alberta and a PhD at the University of Chicago.

He moved to Alberta, with the Edson school division was executive director of the Alberta School Trustees Association, and a professor of education and head of elementary education at the University of Alberta.

Although Joni now performs out of Los Angeles, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Anderson, are still residents of Saskatoon at 1905 Hanover Ave. Mr. Anderson is a co-ordinator with Shelly brothers. The Andersons formerly lived at North Battleford but have been here since midway through Joni's elementary school training.
