A message posted to Joni Mitchell's official website on Tuesday evening refuted claims that the singer was unresponsive.

"Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital - but she comprehends, she's alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected," the message reads. "The document obtained by a certain media outlet simply gives her longtime friend Leslie Morris the authority - in the absence of 24-hour doctor care - to make decisions for Joni once she leaves the hospital."

Earlier on Tuesday, TMZ reported that Mitchell was "unconscious in a hospital, unable to respond to anyone." The website cited a court filing from Mitchell's friend, Leslie Morris, who sought to gain conservatorship over Mitchell.

"The Proposed Conservatee suffered a medical emergency in late March and was taken to UCLA Medical center where she remains at this time," reads the document, which was also obtained by EW. "At this time she remains unconscious and unable to rnake any responses, and is therefore unable to provide for any of her personal needs." Morris filed the petition on Tuesday.

Mitchell was hospitalized March 31 after she was found unconscious at her home. An update on her website posted that day stated "she regained consciousness on the ambulance ride to an L.A. area hospital." Another update posted on April 3 noted that Mitchell was "under observation in the hospital and is resting comfortably."

According to a note on JoniMitchell.com, "neither Joni Mitchell, her management, her record company, or other affiliated organizations have any involvement whatsoever in the site's content and financial decisions and may in no way be held liable for any infringements of copyright." Mitchell's official represenatives have not yet responded to EW's request for comment.
