Canadian music icon Joni Mitchell made a rare public appearance on Wednesday night to see Blondie perform at the Santa Barbara Bowl in California.

"I'm dead," guitarist Chris Stein wrote on Facebook. "I don't have that many heroes. Joni was such a huge influence on my musical life it's hard to express."

Concert-goers said Mitchell, who has been confined to a wheelchair since suffering a brain aneurysm in 2015, was brought in about halfway through Blondie's set.

The 75-year-old singer-songwriter wore a hat and sunglasses as she smiled for a backstage photo with Blondie's Debbie Harry, 74.

Mitchell appeared last November at Both Sides Now - Joni 75, a Birthday Celebration in Los Angeles, where artists like James Taylor, Seal and Kris Kristofferson performed her songs.
