Eight hundred and eight students said they would be willing to pay up to $4 a ticket for a University Union sponsored concert in a Union Poll, the results of which were released early this week.
The Union received 1285 answers to the questionnaire.
The survey, sponsored by the cultural affairs division of the Union, was conducted two weeks ago in order to determine student preferences for concerts to be brought to the University. The questionnaire listed the names of several artists in three different categories of possible concerts that could be presented here.
In the low price category (free concert for students), The Atlanta Rhythm Section received the highest number of votes (576). Todd Rundgren proved to be the most popular concert possibility in the middle price (probably charge) category, receiving 423 votes. Four hundred and thirty one people said they would pay a high concert charge to see Joni Mitchell perform, but Union officials say that Mitchell's availability for a concert is very limited.
Aside from polling students' opinions, the survey also intended to explain to the students the plight of the cultural affairs division in regard to programming for the University. Allocation cutbacks, increased band prices and lack of facilities have all created problems in concert scheduling for the Union.
John (Woodstock) Seymore, director of cultural affairs, feels that the results of this survey will help the division better serve the students and bring the students' choices to campus.
However, "students should note that after preferences have been decided, factors such as the availability of the artist, a suitable facility and the cost of the artist play a major role in whether or not a performer can be brought to the University," Seymore said.
The over 1000 questionnaires were submitted through campus mail to the Union, with the following results:
