Will Taylor Swift get to break out her surprised face come Oscar season?

According to a report by Variety, the 22-year-old Grammy winner is in talks to play legendary songwriter Joni Mitchell in the upcoming drama Girls Like Us, an adaptation of Sheila Weller's book of the same name.

The story centers around the Case of You singer, now 68, and her contemporaries Carly Simon and Carole King. (Alison Pill, who played Zelda Fitzgerald in Midnight in Paris, has reportedly auditioned for the role of King.)

Girls Like Us would be Swift's third major film role; she made her big screen debut in 2010's Valentine's Day, and starred alongside Zac Efron in the animated Lorax, which hit theaters in March.

The "Mean" songstress was a contender for the role of Eponine in the highly-anticipated adaptation of Les Miserables, along with Lea Michele, Scarlett Johansson, and Evan Rachel Wood; the role ultimately went to British theater star Samantha Barks.
