"Love" on Travelogue and "Both Sides Now"

PLytle   2009-Nov-01 at 05:15:36 I think "Love" on Travelogue is the greatest song of our age. Nobody but Joni Mitchell is composing orchestral versions of the Scriptures, and 1 Corinthians 13 is the most important passage of the New Testament. I love "the Sire of Sorrow," too (although the Book of Job ends happily, so maybe a Part II of that song is needed :-) ). Anyways, I know she is retired, and she has given us so much in terms of music and art, that she need never give us another CD. Still, if she ever does, I would love to hear some orchestral compositions and singing of some of the Psalms, or even some of the great hymns, such as "As the Deer," or "Abide with Me." But I understand she is retired now. I also think her interpretations of the songs on "Both Sides Now" are exquisite. To me, the songs are as emotionally transparent as the "Blue" songs and other songs from the so-called "Blue Period." The "Both Sides Now" songs take me places of joy, thrill, pain, sorrow. My whole body aches with "Answer Me, My Love." It's a great recording.

PLytle   2009-Nov-03 at 16:01:49 Yeah, I'm into her latest work right now. "Love" is can be interpreted on different levels. It's a biblical song. To me, that Bible passage (1 Corthintians 13) best describes Jesus' love for us; we are here to learn to imitate him. It can be done in a romantic relationship or in any other relationship. That scripture is often read at weddings, but it should be the mantra of any true Jesus freak. If you don't believe in the Christian God, then what I'm saying won't interest you--which is OK, I think. These are just my own thoughts.

PLytle   2009-Nov-03 at 16:22:30 The "Love" song on "Taming the Tiger" is "Love Puts on a New Face." That's a fine song, too--very French! But that's not the one I posted about. I'm talking about "Love" from "Travelogue."
