Some are fans, others love the music and the place in history. I've met stars - I can hold my own. Joni's a great talent - the poetry, the chord progressions. I've chugged on that ferry with a belly full of cars, too - across the Irish Sea. God bless her, and all her fans. Have you ever listened to Paprika Plains driving across eastern Colorado against a stiff headwind, and gas money running out? How 'bout leaving your friends at a lonely North Dakota junction? Not a cellar full of dolls, but a grain silo full of bowling balls, hubcaps, and barbie dolls? Maybe you know where that is, and the old Norwegian farmer I'm referring to (northwest of Fargo)! She's done a wonderful job of "all gone to look for America" (Paul Simon).. Have you? Better get on with it!

What a perfect song for the moment! AND, I coincidentally drove thru West Virginia during "Morning Morgantown" and felt right at home in my future destination with "Ladies of the Canyon" (LA being so canyon-filled and all). I totally get that travel spirit. I'm stuck on the Hejira album right now for that very reason. And go round and round and round in the circle game.

As I came upon this page I was for no reason at all singing to myself "Short sighted buisness men" then read your post so thought I'd better say something. I always laugh when I think how our home was so different from Joni's - my mama's faith was in people while papa he believed in cleaning and Fredsky what I'd give to be burning like Augustine with no help from God at all!! I'm afraid lately it's all been Paprika plains here- vast and bleak and god forsaken but - I would as it happens still be on my feet. My eyes look like Paprika plains as I go down down the dark ladder, while strains of Benny Goodman are playing...I am still waiting for a Big Yellow Taxi.
