Rumors have been bubbling around the rock business for the past several weeks that arrangements are being made to put together the first all-woman supergroup.
Over the last weekend, some people around Joni Mitchell confirmed that she had been talking with several other big-name females stars about such a group. Nothing, these people suggested, is firm yet. The names mentioned at the time were Bonnie Raitt and Maria Mauldaur.
Some calls to other rock people last week confirmed that talks had been taking place. Country-rock singers Tracy Nelson and Linda Ronstadt, as well as fine young folksinger Wendy Waldman, have also been involved in the discussions. Several problems still exist, chief among them the artists' differences in style and just which label the group would record on. As one music executive notes, though, "these things can be overcome if there is enough money at stake."
Any melding of female stars would certainly be interesting. How does "Mitchell, Mauldaur, Raitt and Ronstadt sound?"
